The Balloon Synth

Tudo começou com uma enxaqueca. Durante uma crise em casa, Valmor ouviu sua filha brincar com um balão, com aquele som irritante dos dedos esfregando na borracha. Sob dor intensa, seu cérebro começou a delirar no processamento destes sons com alguns plugins específicos, transformando-se em uma espécie de sintetizador.

Algum tempo depois, decidiu trazer a idéia para o laboratório e gravamos uma série de sons do balão, desde o esfregar até o ato de esvaziá-lo lentamente.

Os samples foram cuidadosamente editados e cortados para criação de ritmo. Depois disso, iniciou-se o processamento. Os elementos básicos que nos ocorreram foram o beat, baixo sintetizado e uma melodia. depois de um pouco de equalização, distorção e acima de tudo, o MELODYNE da Celemony, conseguimos compôr um tema usando somento sons do balão, e mais nada.

Produzimos um vídeo do processo e colcoamos em nosso canal do Vimeo. A recepção foi bastante calorosa.

Um dos melhores momentos foi certamente uma menção da lendária Moog Music em suas páginas no Twitter e Facebook, apelidando nossa criação de “Balloog”:

It all began with a migraine. During a crisis at home, Valmor overheard his daughter playing with a ballon, that screeching, irritating noise of fingers rubbing the air toy. Under the excruciating pain, his brain tried to imagine the noise processed through some specific plugins, becoming a synth of sorts.

Some time later, he decided to bring it into laboratory and we started recording several balloon noises, from rubbing to blowing the air slowly out.

The samples were carefully edited, cut to form rhythms. After this, the processing started. The basic instruments that could be enviosioned were drums, synth bass and melody. After some careful EQing, distortion and most important, Celemony’s Melodyne, we were able to compose a small tune using only the sounds from the balloon, nothing else.

We made a small video and posted on our Vimeo channel, for everyone to enjoy. Response was quite warm.

One of the higher points for us was a mention by legendary Moog Music on their Twitter and Facebook page, rebranding our creation as “Balloog”.
